LEAP - Legal Assistance Expense Plan

The Ontario Nurses' Association Legal Expense Assistance Plan (LEAP) was established in 1980 to assist ONA members with legal or regulatory body problems relating to their work, including those arising from the province's Regulated Health Professions Act.

Attendance Management Policy

• Staff RN's on several units are receiving letter.
• Keep accurate records of when you are off ill in your date book - save this book and your pay stubs record when ill, reason of illness, if you saw an MD, was it a new illness or due to a pre-existing condition.
• Was it a work related illness or injury? Report it immediately and fill in an incident form, see your MD.
• Keep a log for all WSIB &/or LTD events  - note all relevant dates, MD appointments, who you spoke to or received mail from and date when mail received
• Call the Local ASAP if you have been denied LTD or WSIB
• A form letter has been drafted for members to use in responding to the Employer

Political Action

You may be aware that there is an attempt to privatize Health Care. It is incumbent for all ONA Members to lobby the Government to KEEP MEDICARE PUBLIC.

Remember Canada is known for Medicare. It would be a travesty to allow the government to privatize our Health Care System. The poor and the have-not would certainly suffer. Canada does not wish to become the 51st state of the USA.
